Théâtre de l'Odéon

This pathway is part of the Odéon Theatre in the 6th arrondissement. Located near the Luxembourg gardens and palace to wich this pathway leads it first opened in 1782 to house France's national theatre, the Comédie Française, and is one of the five national theatres in France fully funded by the Ministry for Culture. I have been working in this part of Paris for some times and I do regret it as one can imagine since I now work in the suburb.

I always stay in the 5e arr. and have seen the Odéon many times from the outside but have never ventured in.

Thanks for this lovely photo. The repetition of the black light fixtures makes quite a statement against the beautiful color of the stone.

You don't even have to go inside. This pathway is along the building on its right.

I just finished reading Voltaire in Love by Nancy Mitford and the Comédie Française was frequently mentioned. Voltaire died in 1778 so the original theatre must have been at a different location.
