Commemoration

Today is a bank holiday in France (too bad it's a saturday !). We commemorate the end of world war II on May 8th 1945. The giant French flag is installed under the Arc of Triomph on the Champs Elysées and the unknown soldier's tomb is guarded by Republican Guards.

I don't understand why it is a bank holiday. Shouldn't it be a national holiday?

Oh, I had a nice photo of the flame. Had I known I'd have run it for this special occasion. Your photos are wonderful. LOVE the giant flag, but the close up of the soldiers are superb.
