Dis quand reviendras-tu ?

This titlle meaning " Tell me when will you come back ?" is one of Barbara's most famous song. Barbara, a French singer was born in this house at 6 rue Brochant in the 17th arrondissement of Paris near the Batignolles quarter. I walked by this house by chance and was deeply touched to see it as Barbara is probably my favorite French singer ever. She was born there in 1930 and died in 1997 and she's one of the major singer of our history. I had the chance to see many of her concerts in the last part of her life and her songs are part of my life as it is also for many French and maybe especially Parisians as she was a real one (born here!). The song below was recorded in the 60's but it's one of her "standards" that she kept singing all her life and to me so related to Paris ...

What a beautiful, lyrical voice... I can see why she has a devoted following. I need to add a song or two of hers to my French playlist.

Merci, Laurent, and safe travels...

Laurent,
Merci, another French singer to try and find and enjoy.
What a beautiful voice. I think it helps me to learn my French listening to these singers.

A nod to you tomorrow on my blog. :)

Hi, Laurent -- I "know" you through Virginia but haven't commented here before. Must thank you for this post. I lived in Paris in the '60s and became a lifelong Barbara fan. My favorite is her duet with Brassens of "La Longue Dame Brune."

I saw the lyric that is printed on the sign painted on a carport wall several years ago. I'd never heard of Barbara, so I was unaware of the song and thought it was just a very sweet gesture on the part of one lover to another. It's very interesting to learn of the origin.
