Armistice's day

I waited until this afternoon to post today's picture because I wanted a fresh one from the Arc of Triomphe where this morning took place the commemoration ceremony of the end of World War I. So I went to the Champs Elysées and I'm just back with these pictures.
For the first time a German leader, Angela Merkel, has attended the ceremony with Nicolas Sarkozy. I think this is a perfect sign to show the friendship that is now in place between France and Germany and it gives hope for the future.

I have chills! My great-grandfather camped under the Arc when the he and the other US soldiers came to help liberate Paris. Thanks for these wonderful shots. I can almost see him there.

That IS a momentous occasion to have both France and Germany represented.
The photos are terrific.

Was the United States part of the ceremony??
