Les Petits Plats

A "rouge" restaurant for my friend Virginia and for all of you. Isn't this nice place inviting ? For the French course, "Les petits plats" means " the little courses". It's used to qualify a nice and simple course that you can make at home for friends.

Blog friend meeting

Yesterday evening I had the great pleasure to meet Genie from "Paris and Beyond". She had just arrived in Paris that same day and she and her daughter fought jetlag and freezing weather to meet me for a nice diner in a Brasserie in the 5th arrondissement. I had a great time talking and sharing with them. That is exactly why I keep on going with this blog.

Red Café Marcel

Like my blog friend Virginia (see her great Paris Through my Lens blog) I like rouge (red) so I could not help but  shooting this Café in the 17th arrondissement where this nice couple was hesitating to enter. Look at the girl, doesn't she perfectly suit with the Café's colors ?

Restaurant Apicius

Located in a private park, this mansion is a Relais et Chateaux restaurant called "Apicius", one of Paris' best place home of chef "Jean Pierre Vigato". I think I will never be able to eat there but I thought it would be nice to show you that kind of place. More information is available on the Apicius website.

"Au vieux Paris" is a very old restaurant (they say "since 1594") located in the 4th arrondisssement in a very old and typical street called "rue Chanoinesse". Look whta they've done for their spring decoration ! Grass and spring flower ... isn't it charming ?

Laperouse

Laperouse is a famous Parisian restaurant and one of the oldest as it was founded in 1766. It is located on the river left bank and offers old fashioned "cabinet" style that you can see on their website. The place was very famous in the 1860's when all the "Paris litteraire" like Zola, Maupassant, Musset and Hugo used to come there to eat. Diner for one person is around 110 euros.

Thanks to all for you sweet comments on my blog's anniversary yesterday !

Le Moulin de la Galette

Le Moulin (mill) de la Galette is located rue Lepic in Montmatre, on top of the hill. It is the only remaining mill on the hill and has become a restaurant.
A famous Renoir painting pictured the "Dance at the Moulin de la Galette".

Cloclo

"Cloclo" was the surname of "Claude François" a very famous French singer who died by accident in 1978 at the age of 39. He is still very popular in France even among youngsters who sing and dance on his songs. When he was on stage he was performing surrounded by nice dancing girls who were called the "Claudettes" after his first name "Claude".
After he died, one of his dancers opened a restaurant in the 13th arrondissement called "Le Kamukera" (French caribbean cuisine) which you can see on the picture today. It's located right in front of the French National Library that you can see in the reflection. Of course she's showing in the window pictures of her dancing with him .
Most of non French speaking people may not know this singer but I'm sure that most of you know a song he co-wrote in 1967 with Jacques Revaud and Gilles Thibaud. In French the song is called "Comme d'habitude" (As usual) and tells the (true) story his love breakup with a French singer named France GAll.
In 1969, after rewriting English lyrics (which are unrelated to the original) Frank Sinatra gave a cross-Atlantic version of it in under the title "My Way" and made it one of the most famous song in the world, people ignoring that it's originally French. You can watch the original French version of "Comme d'Habitude" on Youtube.

Dans le noir ?

"Dans le noir ?" (in the black) is this restaurant's name simply because you dine there in the total darkness. You are served by blind staff and from the moment you enter the place untill the moment you leave you are in dark rooms.
I never tried this restaurant but I have friends who did and said that it was a unique experience. You can either choose you meals or let them do it for you so you also have to guess what you're eating. If you want to know more about them, they have a website and since they also have a "Dans le noir ?" restaurant in London you can have information in English on the London pages.
