Grape harvest fair in Montmatre
This weekend is Montmartre Grape Harvest Fair and since last year (see link) I posted pictures of the parade today I decided to show you a shot of yesterday night fabulous fireworks on the Sacré Coeur church. The weather was just perfect all day with warm temperature and a great blue sky which gave us the most perfect night for the fireworks. I posted a video of the Fireworks final on you tube so you can have more than the picture (click here to watch the video).

Postcard Paris
Let's end August with a "carte postale" view of my city through this picture of a painting in Montmatre's Place du Tertre. That's anyway also a side of Paris I like.

Montmartre fabrics
For Parisian, Montmartre is also very well known for some big stores where you can find fabric to make clothes or use as decoration. This store with the great balcony is one of them.

Summer and music
Yes today is the first day of summer and honestly you would never believe it is considering the 11 degrees we have this morning in Paris. Well, the weather people say it's going to warm up this week ... let's hope they're right.
Anyway on the first day of summer, France is celebrating Music with the "Fêtes de la Musique" (Music feast). This event started in 1982 and spread to more than 100 countries worldwide.
During the whole day and night people will be playing music and singing in streets, bars , stages ... You can find any kind of music you like from pop to jazz and classical to rap performed by one single artist or big bands. The lady on my picture it not playing for the event but she's a street artist you can see in Montmartre. I thought her picture would suit today's theme and I do not have pictures of today's artists yet. By the way it should not rain today so let's have fun ... after work of course !
Does your country have this event ?

Football in Montmartre
Like many countries France is fully into the Football World Cup going on in South Africa (wish our team were too!). Not an hour without football talks ! This past weekend I was in Montmartre and I saw this guy doing a very good street show with his ball in front of the Sacre Coeur Basilica.

Romantic stairs in Montmartre
Montmartre in the 18th arrondissement is located on the highest hill of Paris and if you've been here you should know what I'm talking about. We then have a lot of stairs like that one and I thought black and white was the good choice for the romantic style given by these two couples.

Grape harvest fair in Montmatre 2

Today I've decided to break the CDP rule and show more than one picture. Here are some shots from the Fête des vendanges parade in Montmartre that took place yesterday. During more than 1 hour we enjoyed this parade with people coming from all over France in their traditional outfits. It really was a great show !

Grape harvest fair in Montmatre
This week-end in Montmatre we are celebrating the " Grape harvest fair" (Fêtes des vendanges). Montmatre is the only place in Paris where we still have a little vineyard that you can see on this picture. The wine is not very good but not that bad either. It is sold in 50cl bottles and the money goes to the local charities.
You can get more information about this event on the Fêtes des vendanges website (available in English).

Le Moulin de la Galette
Le Moulin (mill) de la Galette is located rue Lepic in Montmatre, on top of the hill. It is the only remaining mill on the hill and has become a restaurant.
A famous Renoir painting pictured the "Dance at the Moulin de la Galette".

Le bar à toutou is open
"Le bar à toutou est ouvert" means " doggy's café is open" ... as you can see with the water provided under this sign seen on a street in Montmartre.
