Street scene : waiting

These people are waiting for other people in front of the Saint Michel Fountain in the Latin quarter. This place is a very common place for Parisian to give a rendez vous in this area. I will show the fountain tomorrow.

Snow is back and this time enough to stay on the ground. Hopefully the little guy is well dressed for the cold.

Another demonstration

I took this picture yesterday evening in the subway as I was going to a diner. It was the end of another demonstration march against the retirement changes project and the participating people were taking the subway back home. These two men were from south of France and the one with the beret wore his former "La Poste" (Post Office) uniform. Who said that French did not were berets ?

This lady resting in the sun in the courtyard if the Hotel de Sully is very special to me as she is my mother. I am not used to post family pictures on this blog but today is a special day as my mum is turning 80 and she's a terrific mum. Happy birthday maman !

Mardi Gras

Paris doesn't have a giant Carnival like Rio or Venice but last sunday there was a "Carnaval de Paris" parade and as you can see we had Brazilians on the show. The great thing was that they made the two parades of the day (Chinesse New Year and Canival) meet on the Place de la République.
Today for Mardi Gras we do not do anything special in Paris except maybe in schools where the have fun with costumes. The two main Carnivals in France take place in the North in Dunkerque and in the South in Nice (click on cities for more information). As for me, my best Carnival ever was in New Orleans.

Fireman's wedding

Passing by Saint Eustache church last saturday I saw this unusual scene. It was in fact a fireman's wedding and all his colleagues were waiting for him and his now wife to get out of the church.

Bouquiniste

"Les bouquinistes" are booksellers located on the Seine river banks selling old books and second hand books. Some of them, like this one, also sell tourist items (postcards, Eiffel towers ...). They are part of History in Paris since in 1620 twenty booksellers were already officially authorized to open their little shops near the Seine. Inside the Guimet Museum

The Guimet Museum is dedicated to Asian Arts. This little boy is one of my best friend's son and he was very impressed by the Indian godess.
