Together with the "Termes de Cluny", the "Arènes de Lutèce" are the only remains from the Gallo Roman era in Paris which at that time was named "Lutèce". They were built in the first century AD and were used to present gladiators combats. Now you can enjoy the spring sun and watch kids play football.

I have been so close, but I have never actually seen the Arenes de Lutece. Merci.
I want to visit this in May. I can't figure out how the niches help with the acoustics, but they clearly did. I understand that the stone risers are 'new' (possibly early 20th c.?) since most of the stone was hauled off for city walls and various buildings. Thanks for highlighting this monument for me!
It's just a short walk from Place Monge métro stop.
