Bricks

We have quite a lot of bricks made buildings in Paris. Most of them are standing along the "outside boulevards" which are the streets making this circle that gives the city limits. Some inside quarter also have these buildings like this one from in the 12th arrondissement overlooking the Promenade Plantée.

Musée d'Orsay

I've already posted photos of the inside of the Orsay Museum. Here is a view from across the Seine of this beautiful former railway station which has been transformed into one of the best Paris museum.

My new blog

No, Paris has not suddendly changed into this fabulous part of Myanmar called Bagan ! Today I break the CDP rule and I do not post a picture of my town because I want to introduce to you my new daily blog : Come Fly With Me.

Since I have the chance to travel during my holidays, which as you all know, we have plenty of in France ! I wanted to share some of my "coups de coeur" photos I took in different parts of the world. I hope you'll enjoy it and of course I will still be posting Paris pictures on this blog !

Foire aux vins

Every september, France is celebrating the Wine Fair (Foire aux vins). Here is a view from my "Monoprix" shop on boulevard de Charonne where they put for the event some glass bubbles with a tube so that you can smell all the different flavours found in wines like spicies, flowers ...

With every flavour you can smell, there is a list of wine associated. It's a great idea and as you can see on the background, we have quite a large choice of wines in that shop.

A sunday on the river bank

"Paris Plages" is over but every sundays of the year the roads on the river bank are closed to car traffic and open for pedestians, rollers, bikes ... it's always a great walk or ride even for a longtime Parisian like me. I just love it !

This "no car" event started on the banks and has now spread to 15 quarters in the city and the 2 woods (Boulogne and Vincennes) where during sundays and public holidays streets are closed to traffic. This permanent event is called "Paris Respire" (Paris is breathing), some of you who already visited the city may have noticed the signs in the street.

A list of the places concerned with maps is available on the City Hall website (French only ... sorry).

Saint Gervais - Saint Protais church

As promissed yesterday, I show you today the inside of the Saint Gervais Saint Protais church. You can see that there are no chairs but small wood stools giving a special look to the place.

Rue des barres

This is one of my favourite street in the "old Paris". It leads from the Seine to the Marais and is surrounded by very old and beautiful houses. On the left you can see the back of the Saint Gervais-Saint Protais church which you can enter there. I will show a picture of the inside tomorrow.

Champagne !

Lucky day today as it is the 09/09/09 so let me share with you a "coupe de champagne rosé" I had with my very good friends Pierre & Meiko last week-end. This is also Paris !

A charming dead end street in the 12th arrondissement called "Impasse Mousset".

More Opera

Mozart was also played outside during the "Opera des rues" event. Yesterday we had this great "Cosi fan tutte" version at the Place d'Aligre in the 11th arrondissment. Really stunning.

Art for everyone

During this week-end there is an event in the 12th and 13th arrondissement called "Opéra des rues" (Street Opera). Many events take place in streets, square and even in a shopping center like this one yesterday at the "Italie 2" mall. A great idea !

Bridges

I guess my favorite views of Paris are on or above the Seine bridges. Here on the background you can see the Conciergerie.

Gargoyle

One of the many beautifull gargoyles of the Sacré Coeur Basilica in Montmatre.

A southern look

This gorgeous mansion is located rue Payenne in the 3rd arrondissement part of the Marais quarter. It has a "south of France" look due to its yellow walls.

Medici Fountain

I agree with Virginia on her Paris Through my Lens blog when she says that the Medici Fountain in the Jardin du Luxembourg is a "must see" in Paris. The whole garden is absolutely beautifull and this fountain is a kind of magic romantic spot in the garden.

I used to work just outside this place and come for lunch here as soon as the weather was good enough.

Arc de Triomphe du Caroussel

This is the top of the Arc de Triomphe du Caroussel located in the Tuileries garden in front of the Louvre Museum. You can see it on one of my old post.

The Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel is at the easternmost end of the so-called "Axe historique" ("grand historic axis") of Paris, a nine-kilometre-long linear route which dominates central and western Paris. Looking west, the arch is perfectly aligned with the obelisk in the Place de la Concorde, the Champs-Élysées, the Arc de Triomphe and (although it is not directly visible from the Place du Carrousel) the Grande Arche de la Defense.

Building hat

It's been a long time since I didn't post a picture of the Tower. This view is taken from the 16th arrondissement on the other side of the Seine river. The Tower seems to stand on top of the building like a hat.

Place Maubert

Want to have a drink on the place Maubert in the charming 5th arrondissement ? Since we still have a nice weather, the shade of the tree and the fountain are just perfect this days.

This is not my cat (mine is black) but I encountered this one looking quite happy in the sun as this last week-end was again fabulous as far as weather is concerned.

Hot Hot Hot

36° in Paris yestersay and still 24° this early morning ... the hot is the only subject among parisian these days. We are really not used to such warm days but as far as I am concerned I like it.
I pictured this thermometer on a building front in Le Marais and thought it would illustrate what we are living these days.

Still hot

Hot summer days are still here in Paris and enjoying the chairs on the Seine banks is so great.

What you see behind the people on the chairs is the Paris Plages swiming pool which I posted a picture of earlier this month.

House of gardening

This is the House of Gardening located in the Parc de Bercy. You can find courses and exhibitions there in this lovely old house. More about this house on the Paris Website.

Summer or automn ?

I took this picture yesterday in the Bois de Vincennes where I had a long rest in the sun. The chestnuts tree already look like if it was automn time. It is still very hot in Paris and so what else than an afternoon in one of the 2 Paris woods, this one being only 15 minutes ride by bike from home, I often go there.

We have hot summer days in Paris with 31° yesterday and I nearly joined these kids having fun at the Parc André Citroen.

Two nice Parisiennes on the stairs in Le Forum des Halles . The place was decorated with those nice lights for the summer.

"Le bar à toutou est ouvert" means " doggy's café is open" ... as you can see with the water provided under this sign seen on a street in Montmartre.

Chateau de Vincennes

Next to Paris and the Bois de Vincennes stands the beautifull Chateau de Vincennes. The Medieval Donjon (tower) is one of the few left in France. Really a "must see" when you're in Paris. It is very easy to get there by subway and you can then relax in the forest.

Saint Laurent

No, I did not became a Saint but today on the French calendar is the "Saint Laurent". As I am not a religious guy I did not post a very religious photo to celebrate this day but it's a church entrance though. The picture is taken at the entrance of the Saint-Martin church in the 3rd arrondissement near Beaubourg. I do not know what they wave at and why they're here but I like it. Maybe because the church is being restored ... or maybe because they wish me "bonne fête" as we say in France when it is your "saint day".

Down into the Louvre

This is the main stair going down into the Louvre museum when you enter the main entrance in the Pyramid. A great architecture don't you think ?

Ménilmontant

"Ménilmontant" is a neighbourhood in the 20th arrondissement located on a hill close to Belleville. This painted wall was created by artist Jerome Mesnager known for its "white men". The sentence "c'est nous les gars de Ménilmontant" is taken from an old song by Maurice Chevalier.

Paris Plages 4 : Swiming

Last saturday I posted a picture of the floating swiling pool on the Seine, here is another pool along the river but this one is temporary for the Paris Plages event.

A little rest by the Seine ...

Paris Plages

For the 8th year, the express road along the Seine River is closed to cars during 1 month (july 20th untill august 20th) and transformed into a great pedestrian way. This is called "Paris Plages" (plages meaning beaches), and as you can see on the picture I took yesterday afternoon, it is quite popular. Not all the express way is like this with sand. You can also find "Cafés", places to play Pétanque, a swiming pool, etc... All of this beeing temporay. I will show more pictures of Paris Plages these next days.

Theme day : night

This morning I completely forgot about the theme day. Maybe my brain is still on vacation and the 9 hours jetlag still not recovered. Anyway it's 11pm now in Paris and I figure I can still participate so here is my night shot. Th bridge is Pont de Bercy crossing the Seine river between the 12th and 13th arrondissement. The building on the right is the house of the French Ministry fo Economy and Finances.

Swiming on the Seine

The Josephine Baker swiming pool is indeed located on the river and the water used to fill it is taken from the river and cleaned on the location. More information about this pool is available on the Paris website (in French). I've been there and it's a nice sensation to be swiming at the river level.
